Making Synth Pop with Polyscape Nova

Creating big sound from a single instrument

Hi, I’m Dani Karanyi, and in this post I’d love to show you how I built a full synth-pop track using only Polyscape Nova — our hybrid synthesizer.

Creating a rich, modern synth-pop production doesn’t require a studio full of gear. In fact, everything you’ll hear in the video below was built entirely inside one plugin — using just a few layers, a handful of smart EQ choices, and the sonic power of Nova’s modular engine.

Here’s the full breakdown — from pads to bass, leads to cinematic transitions:

What’s Inside the Track

This track is built from scratch with only factory presets and layering features from Polyscape Nova — no external synths, no extra FX.

🔹 The Opening Pad:
The track kicks off with a layered pad sound, combining two key presets from the factory library — including analog-style textures inspired by classic Oberheim and early '90s synths. Each layer is assigned to one of Nova’s four modules, while the "SU" layer follows the ADSR curve of the first.

🔹 Analog Leads & Cinematic Plucks:
The signature lead comes from the Old Analog Natural preset — rich, warm, and perfect for melodic phrasing. You can easily brighten the tone using the global EQ and filter on the master or dial it in individually on each module.

🔹 Deep + Driven Bass:
Two bass layers drive the groove: a deep analog sub and a brighter, slightly overdriven top bass. These are shaped using Nova’s built-in Drive and Saturation engine — which you can toggle between using the selector switch, then fine-tune with the Drive/Saturation EQ control.

🔹 Vintage Keys:
For the mid-section, I used the Analog Wash preset — a vintage-sounding keys patch with built-in sub enhancement. This low-end energy can be easily adjusted using Nova’s Sub Module.

🔹 The Outro:
The final section introduces two variants of the Natural Beauty preset and ends with a cinematic soundscape called Lost Treasure. This one blends massive reverb with Nova’s unique Lasher (granular + reverb combo) and the Harmonic Delay unit — both built right into the instrument.

🔁 Try It Yourself

Every sound you hear in the video is included in Polyscape Nova — no need for Kontakt, no extra tools required.
