Creating cinematic textures from just a few layers
Hi, I’m Dani Karanyi, founder of Karanyi Sounds. In this blog post, I want to show you how I built an indie electronica track using a handful of sounds from Polyscape, Midnite, Minipol, and their DLCs.
Creating an immersive indie electronica vibe doesn’t always require a massive toolkit — sometimes it’s all about layering smart textures and using the right tonal ingredients. In this video I break down a full track built with just a few of our plugins and expansion packs, showing how to turn focused sound design into a cinematic musical journey.

Here’s the complete video where I walk through the entire production process, instrument by instrument.
🎛️ Inside the Track – What I Used and Why
This track starts with a raw, bit-crushed guitar preset called No Filter from the Industrial Explorer DLC for Midnite. I love using it to set a darker tone right at the beginning — it’s gritty, saturated, and full of character. The phaser effect in that part doesn’t come from the plugin, but it complements the guitar texture nicely.
For the main staccato lead, I went for a layered approach:
-
Two instances of Midnite, same preset, slightly detuned and panned
-
One layer from Polyscape 2
-
And a sharp, analog-style layer from Minipol
This combination gave me a punchy, mallet-like tone with lots of edge.
One of the key textures in the track is built using Polyscape 2 with the Galaxy Noir expansion. These pads and atmospheres are based on hybrid layering — real cello recordings and synths merged together — and they’re perfect for building tension and cinematic movement.
I also added a metallic overlay to a pizzicato part using another Midnite guitar patch, giving the rhythm more bite. Toward the end of the track, I used several aggressive guitar sounds — again from Industrial Explorer — to drive the section to a heavier, more distorted close.
🔁 What I’d Use Today
The plugins I used in this video were older versions — but every sound you hear here can still be recreated today using our current instruments, many of which are more intuitive, powerful, and flexible than ever.
Here’s how I’d approach this track now:
-
Polyscape Nova is the native, standalone version of Polyscape 2 — compatible with both macOS and Windows without Kontakt. It’s part of the Karanyi Sounds Complete Suite or available on its own.
-
Polyscape 2, as heard in the video, is still available as part of the Complete Kontakt Suite, along with all our other Kontakt-based instruments.
-
Midnite is available as a standalone plugin or in the Complete Suite — still my go-to for saturated cinematic guitars.
-
Minipol continues to be one of our most flexible analog-style synths — small, fast, and full of character. It’s available both as a standalone product or within the Complete Suite.
In short: the exact same creative ideas can be translated today using modern, native tools — with more control and even better sound.
